(HO here) It seems to me that with a mod con and buffer tank, firing cycles would be longer and the system could sip from the buffer to meet the heating load rather than from a highly modulated burner, though I'm guessing it's not that simple. (Let's say for HTP's Versa Flame or Phoenix or UFT.)
